Editorial method

A recommendation has to earn its way onto the page.

Every test starts with a seller decision, uses a free baseline, and preserves uncertainty when a tool’s numbers cannot be independently verified.

The short version

Same task. Same inputs. Visible limits.

A polished dashboard can feel persuasive without being useful. The lab asks whether the tool helps a new or early-stage seller make a better decision—and whether the free option already does enough.

  1. 01

    Define

    Name one seller job

Each test begins with a decision such as choosing between two buyer phrases—not the vague goal of “doing SEO.”

  2. 02

    Baseline

    Try first-party free data first

Etsy Marketplace Insights is checked before a third-party subscription earns credit for solving the task.

  3. 03

    Repeat

    Run the same inputs

Tools receive the same phrases, time window, target product, and written success condition whenever their interfaces allow it.

  4. 04

    Record

    Capture evidence and friction

Plan limits, data labels, workflow steps, blocked actions, timestamps, and important caveats are documented—not recalled later.

  5. 05

    Decide

    Publish one of three verdicts

Stay free, test one paid plan, or skip. “It depends” must include the exact condition that changes the answer.

  6. 06

    Recheck

    Date facts that can change

Plans, limits, interfaces, and policies are linked to their sources and reviewed again before material updates.

Evidence labels

Not every number deserves the same confidence.

Direct

Marketplace or account data

Facts shown by Etsy or observed in the test account, with the relevant date and limits.

Provider-stated

Official tool claim

A feature, plan, or methodology described by the provider but not independently proven by the lab.

Observed

Hands-on workflow finding

What happened during a repeatable task, including any account or access constraints.

Anecdotal

Seller report or forum pattern

Useful for finding problems to test, never treated as proof that all sellers will have the same experience.

Commercial independence

How money is kept away from the verdict.

  • No paid placement.

A provider cannot buy a better rank, badge, or conclusion.

  • Affiliate status is disclosed.

The site is being developed as affiliate-supported, and compensated links will be labeled where a reader makes a decision.

  • Free may win.

A free workflow is a complete recommendation when it finishes the job.

  • Access does not equal approval.

A free account, trial, or affiliate relationship does not create a positive verdict.

  • Corrections stay visible.

Material corrections will include what changed and the review date.

Current stage: method published, paid-tool verdicts pending.

Seller Tool Check has not completed the first paid-tool comparison. The tool tracker shows the current evidence status without filling gaps with assumptions.
